About Chicago
Set in the 1920s world of showbiz, the story of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, whom, accused of murder meet in the Cook County Jail.
A true and loved classic, CHICAGO has everything that makes musical theatre great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping song after another; and the slickest dancing in town. Created by the talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, CHICAGO’s sexy, sassy score includes “All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango” and "Razzle Dazzle”. No wonder CHICAGO has been honoured with 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy and thousands of standing ovations.
Character Roles

Velma Kelly [female / 25-45 years old]

Sarcastic, extremely sexy, tough, funny, murderer with a keen eye for publicity. Actress must be a strong dancer in the Fosse style, with a big, first-rate Broadway belt voice. (Vocal range E3 - D5)

Sexy, funny and innocent, with the ability to murder. Actress must be a fantastic actress, singer and dancer in the Fosse style. (Vocal range F3 - B4)

Billy Flynn [male / 35-60 years old]

Suave, educated lawyer who can talk and wheedle and persuade anyone to do anything. His clients literally get away with murder. Sexy, handsome, charming, masculine. Actor must have a wonderful baritone voice and move well. (Vocal range Bb2 - G4)

Amos Hart [male / 35-55 years old]

Charming, funny, vulnerable, milquetoast of a man, so in love with his wife that he would mortgage anything to pay for her outrageous extravagances; must sing well and be physically adept; a comic-sad character actor. (Vocal range C3 - F#4)

Matron “Mama” Morton [female / 35-55 years old]

Sexy, funny, powerful and tough. The matron of the Cook County Jail who believes that all favours she gives should be reciprocated or paid for. Great, belt voice. (Vocal range F#3 - Bb4)

Although this role is traditionally played by a male dressed as a woman, we also welcome female-identifying performers to audition for this role. (Vocal range Bb3 - Bb5)

Prisoners at Cook County Jail. (Vocal range A3 - C#5)
